Hand forged Railing

Hand forged Railing

The Custom railing featured was designed and executed by Hammersmith Studios for a Client in Chestnuthill MA.
the Client wanted a Light airy Floral design in a vine motif.
We collaborated with the mill work company to ensure a perfect fit. The vine work was forged somewhat round in cross section out of half inch square stock. the leaf work was forged out of one quarter by half inch flat bar. The project was finished with beeswax and linseed oil finish applied hot. Boston Public Library

Boston Public Library

Here are some photos of the Boston public library Ironwork.
The Library was designed by Mckim ,Mead and White in 1888
the ironwork was designed by Alexander Spitzer a Boston Blacksmith who also executed the ironwork at Massachusetts State House . The Iron work for the Library was contracted out to the Snead Co. in Louisville Ky. The Snead Company already had the contract to make the Castiron bookshelves and had a forge large enough to handle the large amount of iron to be produced for the Italianate building . if you are ever in Boston do yourself a favor and check this building it is a feast for the eyes.
