All Branching scrolls were Fire welded using the Traditional coal forge there are over 300 forge welds in all. the Grounds of this property was designed by the Olmsted Bros. of Boston Ma. The Library was designed by Mckim ,Mead and White in 1888
the ironwork was designed by Alexander Spitzer a Boston Blacksmith who also executed the ironwork at Massachusetts State House . The Iron work for the Library was contracted out to the Snead Co. in Louisville Ky. The Snead Company already had the contract to make the Castiron bookshelves and had a forge large enough to handle the large amount of iron to be produced for the Italianate building . if you are ever in Boston do yourself a favor and check this building it is a feast for the eyes.
